Safety Instructions

Lithium ion batteries are hazardous. Any failure to follow these safety instructions could damage the battery or charger which could cause fire, chemical burns, electrolyte leaks, and/or could lead to serious and/or fatal injuries. If the battery explodes, immediately call the fire department, cautiously remove any other batteries if possible, evacuate all persons from immediate area of fire, and use cold water to put out the fire.

1. Use only the SRAM-supplied charger and cords. Use of other chargers and cords may cause the battery to overheat, catch fire, and/or explode.

2. Replace rechargeable batteries with genuine SRAM rechargeable batteries only.

3. Replace batteries only with the type described in the user manual.

4. Used batteries are hazardous and must be recycled in accordance with the applicable local, federal, and/or EU regulations. Never dispose of batteries in a fire.

5. Do not use the battery outside of the temperature range specified in the user manual; avoid exposure to excessive heat or cold. Do not leave the battery in direct sunlight or in a vehicle.

6. Do not place the battery or charger in or near fire or in a place where static electricity occurs.

7. Do not modify or disassemble the battery or charger. Avoid dropping your battery or charger. Do not use a battery or charger that has been dropped or is damaged. Signs of damage include: discoloration, dents, cracks, punctures, or leakage.

8. Do not charge the battery in a damp or wet location. Avoid exposure to moisture and/or water during charging. For parts with a plug, do not insert or remove the plug while it is wet; otherwise, it may cause an electric shock. Make sure the plug is dry before inserting it.

9. Do not leave the battery in a charger or on equipment if it generates an odor and/or heat, changes color and/or shape, leaks electrolyte, or causes any other abnormality. If you notice any abnormalities, immediately remove the battery from the charger or equipment.

10. Do not leave a charging battery unattended. Do not leave the battery connected to the charger after charging is complete. Store the battery at room temperature with the battery cover on, if provided.

11. Do not allow metal, such as paper clips, coins, or keys, to come into contact with the battery terminals. Metal can damage the battery terminals and cause the battery to short-circuit.

12. This product may contain a coin/button cell battery, which is non-rechargeable.

13. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children.

Warning

Keep new and used batteries out of reach of children at all times. Batteries can be a choking hazard, and if swallowed can cause internal chemical burns in as little as two hours and lead to death. Dispose of used batteries immediately. If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.

Warning

SKIN IRRITANT

Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may occur. Do not allow leaked electrolyte to come into contact with eyes or skin. Immediately wash the affected area with clean water and seek medical advice.

Notice

Hands and gloves must be clean before handling the SRAM battery. Contact with sunscreen or hydrocarbon cleaners may cause the battery to crack.

Eagle Powertrain Battery Charging

Notice

Charge the battery in a dry location in temperatures from 0°C (32°F) to 40°C (104°F). Do not leave the E-Bike unattended while charging.

Assemble the Charger

1. Insert the AC charger cord for your electrical outlet plug type into the charger power supply. Once assembled, the cord may stay assembled with the charger power supply.

Plug the charger cord into a compatible wall outlet.

Warning

FIRE HAZARD

Use only the SRAM-supplied charger cord and charger power supply to charge the battery. The use of other charger cords and power supplies may cause the battery to overheat, catch fire, or explode.

Frame Port Battery Charging

Notice

Wipe the plug cover with a cloth to remove dirt and debris before opening to avoid contamination of the contact pins.

1. Release the plug cover from the charge port on the bicycle frame.

2. Insert the keyed charger connector into the port so the keyed prongs are aligned.

3. Charge the battery. The display will turn on to show the charge status, but the drive unit will not operate when the charger is attached.

Battery Charging off the Bike

Notice

Use two hands to remove the battery. Be careful not to damage the lower mounting bracket when removing the battery. Do not drop the battery.

Some batteries may have an integrated frame cover. Consult your frame manufacturer's instructions for removal.

For E-Bikes with a Compact Size (630Wh ) Battery:

1. Use a 5 mm hex wrench to loosen the mounting bolt until it is free from the frame. Pull the tab on the mounting bracket to release the spring loaded mounting. Tilt the battery until you can remove it from the lower mounting in the frame.

For E-Bikes with a Full Size (720Wh ) Battery:

1. Adjust the bicycle frame in the work stand so the downtube is horizontal to the ground. Remove the plug side frame bracket mounting screw, if applicable, and slide the battery out of the frame.  For frame manufacturers that use their own hardware, consult the frame manufacturer's instructions for tool size.

2. Insert the keyed charger connector into the port so the keyed prongs are aligned.

3. Charge the battery.

Charger Status LED Indicator

A solid red LED indicates the battery is charging.

A flashing red LED indicates the charger is receiving an error message. Consult the Powertrain Troubleshooting Matrix section.

The solid green LED on the charger indicates a fully charged battery.

Charge the Range Extender and the Powertrain Battery with Split Cable

Notice

The Split cable will only function if it is plugged into the Powertrain Battery and the Range Extender. The Split cable cannot be used to charge a single battery. For the Split cable to charge, you must follow the steps in the correct order below. Failure to follow the order below may result in the E-Bike not charging.

See Disconnect the Range Extender from the System if the cable is connected.

1. Plug the SRAM Powertrain Charger into a compatible wall outlet without the Split cable attached.

2. Insert one of the Split cable connectors into the Powertrain Battery or frame charge port, and the other connector into the Powertrain Range Extender port so the keyed prongs are aligned.

See the section, Battery Charging Off the Bike, for directions to remove and charge the Powertrain Battery off the bike.

3. Insert the Split cable cord into the SRAM Powertrain Charger connector.

If the LED on the Powertrain charger does not turn red to show it is charging, unplug the connection between the charger and the Split cable. Reconnect the Split cable plug to the charger plug.

A solid red LED indicates the batteries are charging.

A flashing red LED indicates the charger is receiving an error message. Consult the Powertrain Troubleshooting Matrix section.

The solid green LED on the charger indicates the batteries are fully charged.

Charge the Range Extender

See Disconnect the Range Extender from the System if the cable is connected.

1-2. Insert the keyed charger connector into the Range Extender port so the keyed prongs are aligned.

3. Charge the Range Extender.

A solid red LED indicates the battery is charging.

A flashing red LED indicates the charger is receiving an error message. Consult the Powertrain Troubleshooting Matrix section.

The solid green LED on the charger indicates a fully charged battery.

Battery Charge Status

Press and release the Power button on the display to show the charge status when the battery is charging. At 100% charge, the battery will power off. Unplug the charger from the charge port and press the Power button on the display to power on the E-Bike.

Notice

The E-Bike will not power on with the charger attached and the battery fully charged. Unplug the charger from the charge port and press the Power button on the display to power on the E-Bike.

The charge status is shown on the battery. The visibility of the status indicator may vary based on the integration of the battery into the E-Bike frame.

Battery Status with Range Extender

The current state of charge for the Eagle Powertrain Battery plus an Eagle Powertrain Range Extender will display the total system State of Charge (SOC) as a percentage above 100%.

The total system SOC will vary depending on the size of the Eagle Powertrain Battery, 630Wh or 720Wh. See the Battery Charge Status section for Powertrain battery charge levels.

Unplug the Charger

Unplug the charging cord from the battery or frame charge port when fully charged. Install plug cover, if applicable.

Notice

The E-Bike will not power on with the charger attached and the battery fully charged. Unplug the charger from the charge port and press the Power button on the display to power on the E-Bike.


Eagle Powertrain Battery Installation

Compact (630Wh) Battery Mounting

1. Insert the battery into the frame with the charging port side of the battery into the frame plug bracket so the prongs are aligned (1a). Push up on the battery until the battery is secure (1b).

2. Install and tighten the bolt into the battery mounting hole in the frame while you push the battery into the plug side mounting bracket. Make sure the battery is connected to the plug. Firmly push the plug side mounting system as you tighten the bolt.

3. Install the frame battery cover according to the manufacturer's instructions, if applicable.

Warning

Make sure the battery is secure before riding. If the frame mounted battery starts to rattle or develop play you must stop the bicycle immediately. Loosen the mounting bolt, push the battery down into the lower attachment point, and retighten the bolt. Routinely check the bolts for the correct torque values; never ride with loose bolts.

Full Size (720Wh) Battery Mounting

Notice

Some full size batteries cannot be removed by the end user. You must consult your frame manufacturer's instructions for the proper removal and installation for your battery.

For E-Bikes with a Slide-in mounting:

1. Adjust the bicycle frame in the work stand so the downtube is horizontal to the ground.

2. Install the full size battery into the frame according to your frame manufacturer's instructions.

3. Insert the keyed wire harness plug into the port so the keyed prongs are aligned.

4. Install and tighten the plug side frame bracket mounting screw, if applicable. For frame manufacturers that use their own hardware, consult the frame manufacturer's instructions for tool size and torque value.

Warning

Failure to install and tighten the plug side mounting screw may result in the battery sliding out of the frame. This may result in injury to the rider and/or damage to the battery. Routinely check the bolts for the correct torque values; never ride with loose bolts.


SRAM AXS Single Battery Charger Base

1. Connect the small end of the USB cable into the Micro USB port on the SRAM® charger base.

Warning

FIRE HAZARD

Use only the SRAM-supplied charger cord and charger power supply to charge the battery. The use of other charger cords and power supplies may cause the battery to overheat, catch fire, or explode.

2. Connect the USB cable to a USB charging port.

Notice

For best charging performance, use a USB 3.0 or later charging port. Connecting to a charging port that precedes USB 3.0 could result in longer charging times. A USB AC adapter is not included with the battery and charger. If using a USB AC adapter, make sure that it supplies a minimum of 1A at 5V.

3. Remove the battery cover from the battery, and charge the battery.

Notice

Do not discard the battery cover. To protect the battery terminals, install the battery cover on the battery when it is not on the charger or component.

4. Insert the battery into the charger base. Make sure the battery tab is seated first. The charger LED may take up to 5 seconds to illuminate after the battery has been installed.

The battery will take roughly one hour to reach a full charge when using the recommended USB AC adapter. Charge times may vary based on USB power source.

5-6. Press the button on the charger base to release the battery.

Notice

Be sure to install the battery cover on the battery when the battery is not in use. Failure to cover the battery terminals could result in damage to the battery.

8. Adjust the dial on the battery cover to show the battery charge.

Consult with your transportation authority regarding battery restrictions when traveling with electronic devices.

LED Indicator Status

A solid blue LED indicates the charger is receiving adequate power.

A flashing blue LED indicates the charger is receiving less than optimal power. The battery will still charge, but at a slower pace.

The amber LED indicates the battery is charging.

The green LED indicates charging is complete.

Troubleshooting

A red LED indicates an error has occurred. Remove and reinstall the battery, disconnect and reconnect the charger plug, and if the LED is still red the battery or charger may be defective. Consult your SRAM® dealer.

If no LEDs illuminate after 5 seconds, check that the plug is fully inserted into the outlet, and that the outlet is supplying standard USB power (1A at 5V). If the LEDs still do not illuminate, consult your SRAM dealer.


SRAM AXS Four Battery Charger Base

1. Connect the USB Type C cable into the port on the SRAM charger base.

Warning

FIRE HAZARD

Use only the SRAM-supplied charger base and USB Type C cable. The use of other chargers and cables may cause the battery to overheat, catch fire, or explode.

2. Connect the USB Type C cable to a USB-C charging port, not included.

Notice

For best charging performance, use a USB Type C charging port. A USB Type C adapter is not included with the battery and charger. Make sure the power supply is a minimum of 3A at 5V. Connecting to anything less than 3A 5V will result in an insufficient power supply and delayed charging times.

3. Remove the battery cover from the battery, and charge the battery.

Notice

Do not discard the battery cover. To protect the battery terminals, install the battery cover on the battery when it is not on the charger or component.

4. Insert up to 4 batteries into the charger base. Make sure the battery tab is seated first. The charger LED may take up to 5 seconds to illuminate after the battery has been installed.

Quad Base Charger

⚡ Fast Charge 1 or 2 batteries: Charges one battery to >75% in twenty minutes, or two batteries >75% in thirty minutes. Once the batteries reach 75%, the batteries will charge at the normal rate.

Standard Charge: Charge three or four batteries to 100% in ~1 hour. You must use the recommended USB Type C adapter for sufficient power supply.

5-6. Press the button on the charger base to release the battery.

Be sure to install the battery cover on the battery when the battery is not in use. Failure to cover the battery terminals could result in damage to the battery.

8. Adjust the dial on the battery cover to show the battery charge.

Consult with your transportation authority regarding battery restrictions when traveling with electronic devices.

Troubleshooting

A red LED indicates an error has occurred. Remove and reinstall the battery, disconnect and reconnect the charger plug, and if the LED is still red the battery or charger may be defective. Consult your SRAM® dealer.

If no LEDs illuminate after 5 seconds, check that the plug is fully inserted into the outlet, and that the outlet and cord are capable of supplying 3A at 5V output. If the LEDs still do not illuminate, consult your SRAM dealer.


Maintenance

For the best results, keep the battery clean and dry. Use a dry cloth to gently clean the battery terminals. When removing and installing a battery mounted into a bicycle frame make sure you clean the mounting points, mounting bolt, and battery with a dry cloth.

Store the battery at room temperature and away from excessive heat or cold.

eTap and AXS: Install the battery cover when the battery is not in use. To prevent battery depletion, install the derailleur battery blocks and battery covers before transportation.

Warning

Do not use the battery, charger, or power supply if it has been damaged, dropped, or modified.

Replace the SRAM battery with an authentic SRAM battery only.

Replace the AXS Controller battery with a CR2032 coin cell battery only.

Replace the SRAM power meter battery with a CR2032 coin cell battery only.

Replace the Pedal Sensor battery with a AAA Lithium/Iron Disulfide (Li/FeS2) battery only.

Replace the SRAM or Quarq power meter Battery Sled battery with a AAA Lithium battery only.

Never dispose of batteries in a fire.
